Magistrates Court
* All matters begin here, as such bail is mostly granted here (unless there is no ability for the Magistrate to grant bail)
* Simple/summary offences or those indictable offences where an election has been made to hear them summarily or that are required to be heard summarily can be finalised here.
* Indictable offences that are proceeding up to higher courts usually go through a committal proceeding here.
* Prosecutors in this court are usually police (although some exceptions).
* Magistrates sit alone to make decisions on sentence or trial (i.e. no jury at this level).
