Searching Persons
Persons not in custodyPolice can stop, detain and search a person and anything in the person's possession for anything relevant if they have reasonable suspicion of prescribed circumstances. They can seize items if they may provide evidence of commission of an offence/could be used to harm someone: s 29 Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld).

Conducting the Search
Police (and anyone helping them) may use reasonably necessary force, but not force likely to cause death/GBH: s 615 Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld). There are particular safeguards police need to take in searching persons: s 624 Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld). Strip searches are permitted: s 629 Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld). But there are particular safeguards that apply in those instances: s 630 Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld).
